I’m Robert, a Network Architect who recently joined a utility company in Western Canada as part of a broad IT transformation. My role involves design and architecture across a wide range of technologies, both on-premises and in the Cloud. I assist with defining our IT organisation’s strategy and road-maps, and with guiding our organisation’s use of technology to solve business challenges. Previously, I worked Value Added Reseller/Consulting firm/Managed Services Provider where my role involved me in the entire lifecycle of a project, from pre-sales, to architecture, implementation, day 2 support and beyond.
I’m a nerd at heart and love all aspects of technology including virtualisation, automation, and Cloud computing. I believe in breaking down silos, and in the value of being a well-rounded Architect or Engineer. Furthermore, I believe in the concept of Infrastructure as Code – implementing the processes and concepts of the development lifecycle such as configuration management, version control, continuous integration, etc.
I’m an INFJ, a concrete sequential thinker, and I’m a
bit of a perfectionist.
Originally from Leeds, England, I now reside in Western Canada, where the mountains meet the prairies. I’m a life-long Leeds United (Football) and Leeds Rhinos (Rugby League) supporter.
I love Batman, macOS, Linux, virtualisation, Open Source, automation, BIND, Vi(m), VS Code, Chuck Taylors, landscape photography, and the oxford comma.
Some of the vendor certifications I hold are: CCDP, CCNP Data Centre, CCNP Routing & Switching, and VMware VCIX(6)-NV.
